The problem with segments is that it requires a level of common sence to know when enough is enough, or even if a segment should exist in that place anyway. When I'm in London Strava segments don't even cross my mind.
Even in the country the idea of downhill segments seems silly when some of the descents are single lanes with no way out if you happen to come across other road users. But I can only give it praise when it comes to proper climbs, I'm proud of my KOMs where there's a sensible gradient and the ability to see how your times change over time is great and definately helps give Strava an edge.
Totally agree with this. I find it interesting to see my progress on certain climbs and Strava in general nice for logging miles and seeing how cycling friends are doing. That's about it.
There are other people who already upload the BC runs if people are interested in the routes.
I just don't see that my club run data is of interest to anyone other than myself.
For similar reasons I don't post pictures of myself, my tattoos, my bikes or anything else online (All of these things can be found but were put there by people other than I).
Something about our peers constant desire for internet recognition rubs me the wrong way. I'm loud and obnoxious in real life without spreading that around in pixel form too.
All fair reasons.
I did wonder whether there had been issues with the Police. Our chaingang and TTs have suddenly attracted a lot of attention for pretty much the 1st time in 70 (!) years.
