  • I kinda disagree... on the one hand you are right, on the other hand my last few years has been all about buying second hand / cheap, experimenting and selling on, refining the collection to bikes which really suit me. I could have done this more efficiently (less bikes getting sold on) by spending £300 on a new frame instead of £70 on a second hand one, but it would have been less efficient financially. And less fun.

    As a kid I had 3 bikes in 10 years, before having another 3 or 4 second hand in a couple of years. I now own 9 bikes / frames and have sold more than double that number in the last few years. Almost all I have sold I bought for me before upgrading or deciding that what I had wasn't quite right (size, style etc).

    You get better at choosing bikes by RIDING YOUR BIKES MOAR.

    I went through about five builds as I learnt this.
