I tried doing skid stops too and found it hard, I think I needed straps on the pedals to make it easier. I did keep the brakes on the bike as a precaution, shame this didn't save me when some stupid cow walked out in front of me yapping on her mobile. I panicked, to avoid her I tried back pedalling and hitting the brakes which ended up with my getting thrown over the handlebars and fracturing my elbow.....
