It seems to me that the rather than improving or simplifying the shopping process, the amount of choice online + prevalence of price-matching/special offers + expectation of customer reviews + feeling obliged to read/heed them = anxiety, wasted time, sometimes good but also bad choices.
It's not even as if our decisions (or lack thereof) are binding these days since it seems possible to get a refund on almost anything - so really, the shopping process doesn't end until you've decided whether to exchange or send the purchase back.
