I fell off going up the monte santa maria and could not get on the bike again as I didn't have momentum. I was running 42/28 and that was the only bit I had to walk.
This year I plan to be fitter and do it in less time. Don't forget to eat well in all the stops. I skipped the ribollita and was almost bonking at one point. Big mistake... Also try to set out as early as you can, I overslept and started 6.55 am which was a big mistake as I finished at night, luckily enough there was a nice guy that had made it 5 times and knew the route and I tagged along with him.
I had schwalbe stelvio 23 tyres that weren't new and had no punctures. The trick is not to be seated most of the time, i think so you don't put to much weight on the tyres.
