Although I agree mostly with the above (regarding contact and sweetspot, that's why I was suggesting curved rather than design c), I think it would be worth loosing a bit of the corner... It's going to get worn away anyway...
And I don't think it would take much removal to have enough of a weight saving to reinforce the cap. At a wild guess removing an average of a mm over the last 30mm (but keeping the thickness, so making the internal diameter one mm smaller too) would allow you to have a cap 1mm thicker... Am I miles out?
Is 1 or 2 mm lmore likely to be enough to make the cap more stable?
