tl;dr Filming on the 24th Feb, a BBC3 program with Gemma Cairney presenting, wants to hear from the 18-25 demographic about cycling.
Mentorn TV (makers of BBC’s “Question Time”) are making a short film about cycling for a new BBC3 show live studio debate show. The VT is a short insert for the live studio show with Gemma Cairney (fellow cyclist!) who will be riding around (poss with Go Pro) and looking at the reality of cycling in a city.
We are looking for people who are happy to give their opinions and vox pop some cyclists about cycling in London. The film will only be speaking to cyclists for the VT and debating with the studio audience afterwards whether or not we need more safety for cyclists and how this can be achieved, and also whether or not there needs to be a certain level of proficiency required. We’ll also be going down to Critical Mass to get some stock shots of cyclists on 24th as well.
Our piece is going to be well balanced and is posing the question, rather than taking a view on how things could/should be. We’re interested in getting Gemma to speak to regular cyclists about their experiences on the road. We are particularly interested in speaking to regular cyclists aged 18-24 as our programme is for BBC3, our demographic is 18-25. According to ROSPA, 38% of those killed and seriously injured on GB roads in 2010 were under 29 years old (this is only the reported cases) and we feel that cycling and safety in London are very important to young people today.
I wanted to get in touch to find out if you could circulate this amongst your forum members and whether I would be able to post something along these lines in your forum. We are going to be filming on Friday 24th February, most likely in East London. Feel free to pass on my email (cmarsden@mentorn.tv) and number 020 7258 6762.
Best,
Charlotte
