  • I went. Whilst there were no visible marshals it went well and I was surprised by the amount of people who came down. I also thought the police did an admirable job and keeping things on an even keel.

As it was just round the corner from my office at the time I finished work I went. The politics of it all jar with me slightly. Having said that I can see where Bikes Alive are coming from and I think venting frustration at a peacable event like this is probably preferable to simply making do with a bad situation. It's something that needs airing, but I think cyclists would be better placed to explain how all road users would benefit from TfL listening to pedestrian and cycling groups rather than going on what could be misconstrued as a selfish protest. It might be good in future if placards were hung and pamphlets distributed that outline exactly what these protests are in aid of. Greater understanding of the issues and presenting facts in a straightforward and non-agressive way is probably the surest route to making roads safer and more pleasant. Though I'm not averse to righteous indignation if it is warranted.
Nicely put. Thanks for the feedback.
