I rode to Paris and back last year before having a bike fit. Worst idea ever to be honest. I've had knackered knees since (which may take another year to heal yet) and had badger hand (could close/grip my hands for a month) once I got back. Since then I've had a professional bike fit but my right knee still gives me trouble I have to stretch it every day and keep an eye on it.
