ideally chase through with proper tool - but i have got away with using old BB shells to chase the thread - use steel ones from old style cup and cone BB
(same can be said of steering thread that needs chasing - again use steel )
you might need to use a tool like this to get them round (but it's worth making one to have in the tool box ) :
