Ahh I'm just being grumpy. There has been some good stuff on. I particularly enjoyed all that Jim Al Khalili stuff on the elements and spacetime.
However, like Will, I don't know why they can't make more programmes that credit the audience with just a bit of background knowledge. Or even just the ability to retain information given would be nice. You'd think it would be ok, if only occasionally, to assume a level of prior interest and therefore familiarity from an audience who have sought out a specialist documentary on a fairly lofty subject in an obscure corner supposedly more highbrow bit of the beeb. And yet, the majority of this output still seems to be aimed at a particularly attention defecit afflicted remedial GSCE class.
The Music documentaries are particularly awful as well. Out of desperation, I started watching some thing about the acoustic guitar last night. Had to turn it off after a few minutes despite potentially interesting interviews with Bert Jansch, Vasti Bunyan etc the bulk of the programme seemed to based round the awful acoustic outings of horrifically shit 90s rock bands. It was hateful. I think it was supposed to irreverant and funny but it just came across as the demented and aimless ramblings of someone who's record collection started with whitesnake, passed though guns n roses, led zeppelin and extreme and ended in 1995 with the manics and oasis. Fucking abysmal.
