I stripped my Pompino when the original finish started to look tatty (which happened surprisingly quickly) and applied a very thin layer of linseed oil. Three/four weeks later it seems to be holding up well - and its used as my daily commuter so it see's all weather and is stored outdoors as well (admittedly under cover)
