• An update on this sad story; glad to see the cock finally admitted it which means witnesses don't have to go to trial. I hope his family get some peace out of this - the bit at the end of the article about staff at the newsagency raising money to repatriate his body makes me really sad:

** Motorist, 22, admits Hatch End paper boy dangerous driving death **

A BULGARIAN motorist, pictured left in the sunglasses, who hit and fatally injured a cycling newspaper deliveryman in Hatch End has been warned he faces jail.
Aleksander Preslavski, 22, of Linklea Close, Colindale, admitted at Harrow Crown Court this morning causing the death of Rajendra Ramakrishnan by dangerous driving and will be sentenced on July 19 - one day short of the one-year anniversary of the fatal accident.
The victim, a married 34-year-old father-of-two from Sri Lanka, was riding his pushbike westbound along Uxbridge Road at 6.20am on July 20 2010 when Preslavski's silver 54-reg Honda Civic collided with him at the junction with Cornwell Road, leaving papers strewn in the road.
Mr Ramakrishnan suffered severe head injuries and a heart attack. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him before taking him to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, east London but he died there three days later of a fracture-dislocation of the spine in the neck.
Preslavski, an ex-London Underground cleaner, was arrested and bailed the day of the accident by officers from the Metropolitan Police's Alperton-based road death investigation unit, and subsequently charged.
At today's plea hearing, Judge Graham Arran ordered a pre-sentence report and warned Preslavski: "Custody seems to me to be inevitable in a case of this sort.
Judge Arran granted the Bulgarian bail on condition he wear an electronic tag to monitor a 10pm to 7am curfew, surrenders his passport and does not apply for foreign travel documents, continues to pay surety, and complies with the probation service. Preslavski was additionally given an interim driving disqualification.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Chris Osbourne said outside court: I'm glad he's fully owned up to what he's done and has avoided witnesses having to come to a trial.
Mr Ramakrishnan delivered newspapers for both Milli News and Harveys newsagents in Uxbridge Road and had been sharing a room in the flat above the latter with his 22-year-old flatmate Punnitha Kumarajothi for less than a month when the accident occurred.
In the wake of the death, Milli News staff organised fundraising from customers to pay for the repatriation of their former employee's body to his homeland.
