• Hello all.
I'm new to this, so please forgive any misplacement of my post.
A bunch of us are planning to do the London to Oxford ride on the 3rd of July, and I have the choice between my beloved Langster, which I use every day, and my old (heavy, but with gears) Falcon.
The Langster is light, and well maintained, whereas the other one has spent the winter outside, and is so far missing a front wheel, a saddle and a seat post (they got nicked the last time I went to France).
My problem is that I will need to move both bikes across the Channel this summer, and do not want to replace said missing parts unless absolutely necessary before being in France.
So. Here is my question: can the ride to Oxford be done on a single speed? (I am not THAT athletic, ride every day but not like a maniac).
I would love to do it on the Langster (it has the tyres for it, is super light, which is a huge plus for me (I weight 45kg), and the pedals take SPDs), but am a tad scared of going up hill for a sustained amount of time.
The other bike, on the other hand, is more a "pub bike" (very basic) and weighs like a dead elephant, but has gears...
    Can anyone help me? Please?
I know it is a stupid question and all, but I'm a bloody foreigner and don't know the geography of Britain enough to make an informed decision.
