Was a lovely gathering of people keen to promote cycling as part of a radical alternative way of living. People were from all over the country each presenting information about a variety of projects such as recycling bikes, bike powered events, encouraging non mainstream cycling through all ability cycling activities, working with immigrants and asylum seekers and more. People worked for cooperatives, Community interest companies and social enterprises.
Discussions/topics included:
Whether or not/how to engage with events linked to the corporatisation of cycling (Skyride, barclays hire bikes, red bull polo sponsership etc, fixed fad hipsters etc)
Whether police tagging/chipping bikes may be a route to bike registration through the back door
How to build trailers
My workshop was how to run mass rides
I stayed till saturday night (then came back to london for the Hell of the North Ride on Sunday)
The vegan food was tasty and the whole event was excellently run by Nes and the local people so thanks guys. It was great!
