thank you mr bear - was over budget, but worth being poor for a while I reckon.
I rode the Merckx, and it was good, but it's miles away from the s-works in terms of weight (105 is heavvvyy - even the sti's weigh 2-250g more than Record), bb stiffness, comfort and performance - not to mention the finishing kit (they're quite odd looking in the flesh too).
I would had quite liked to have ridden the Cannondale and was seriously considering buying one - but they weren't in stock anywhere for months (wtf? 2011 bike!) and frankly they're not great value- with £1700 for Apex and a sub £100 wheelset - I was looking at spending another £300 at least on wheels pre-Etape. Makes Italian brands look reasonable value for money.
