  • I don't know the exact details about this particular incident but have read all the posts above. In terms of sensitivity and journalism as a generalisation I'd say that sensitivity doesn't really come into reporting what happened that much. Thanks to the instancy and global/local nature of the media these days we have access to everything all the time.

    What I'm trying to say, perhaps not very well, is that while we can see a kitten hilariously falling off a sofa into a bowl of popcorn on youtube as it actually happened. We can also see the aftermath of an accident or incident as if we had been there. I would say (without wishing to make excuses) that this type of journalism is more a symptom of how immediate and all-seeing our media has become.

    It doesn't necessarily mean that those charged with reporting the facts are any less human than the rest of us but I do think that there is an element of desensitisation both for those who report and those who consume. Not a good thing at all but again a symptom of the nature of our media today.
