Depends what sort of sink....but my advice would be...
undo the plug hole check for any blockage there. Plunging doesn't work, so I'm guessing it's gonna be a biggish blockage further down.
Remove u-bend, you'll want a bucket for all the crap/water to fall into, clean u-bend. At this point I would also go to the nearest outside drain and check that, depending what sort of drain, how it feeds out it's possible the blockage could start further away.
As a rule I have never used any of those special remedy things, I find pressure, poking, plunging, more water, pressure hose and roding the only effective means of un-blocking.
