I think that whichever DAW you choose to use will be less important than your soundcard.
The painful lesson I had to learn when I was doing this was that most soundcards at that time had an audible delay due to latency, which when you're makign electronic music is not such a big deal. But when you're trying to track guitars/vocals/bass/live instrumentation, that few milliseconds delay can make it impossible to do a decent take while monitoring.
The Focusrite Saffire preamps are nice, and the card has a 'direct' option where you can monitor what's going into the preamp without having to monitor through the DAW and suffer the delay. I'm sure there are a tonne of other soundcards which have this option now - make sure whatever you get has it. Totally indispensable for live musicians.
