I believe I'm correct in saying that one of the acid's found in pineapples is corrosive to skin so workers on pineapple plantations (those working without gloves at least) often had no fingerprints.
I remember the first time I saw a pineapple plant, i was so shock that it wasn't a tree. I think its the name lead me into thinking they hung down off trees.
