If it's just scratches in the lacquer then you can wet sand the clear coat with a fine grade paper, say 1500 and keep it well lubed. After flattening you can use a polishing compound to bring back a shine and then a coat of wax to protect.
If you're scratched down to metal then you'll need to touch with something like automotive paint and lacquer on top with a clear lacquer especially if the paint is metallic.
