    But ive inhereted this obsession with ventilation from my dad, he used to go on about it an awful lot. Back in the 60's when he was living in houses with coal fires that no body could be bothered to light. He kept the places warm by opening windows to remove humidity. Something he taught me.

    I reckon the room still does not have enough ventilation, despite a cracked draughty window. There needs to be ventilation elsewhere in the room, ideally high up on the walls.

    Your temperature gradient thing will also obviously work for reducing condensation on the window, and it probably has so much condensation because of the single glazing. But it really shouldn't be that much of it.
