I love the double tap, I'm surprised how quickly I got used to it, what I like most about it is that you don't need to rotate your wrist slightly to use the small button in order to downshift (well on a campag ergolevers that is).
I find 53 unnecessary in general too, I end up using the smaller ring to compensate as it's easier in London, I used to have a bike with a 44-46 chainring, odd getting used to (bike came from Amsterdam, no surprise there).
