Sustrans were stopping cyclists the other week and asking for donations.

In the course of the chat the lady told me that they were Sustran cycle lanes, or proposed, researched and funded by them anyway.

Of course none of that is true. The professional money collectors used by Sustrans have no idea of who put in the work to make the cycle lanes happen. They tend to ask for money on the popular cycle routes, part of the London Cycle Network which LCC conceived and lobbied for. On the Sustrans routes in London there are too few cyclists to make begging worthwhile.
