hey phest - apologies, dublinkevin pm'd and made a firm offer while i was waiting on you to contact me (after snowy_again pm'd me to say he had a mate who might be interested).
i guess this is an unusual scenario but as i had no assurance that snowy's mate (you) would contact me i've gone ahead and sold the bike to the first firm bid via pm.

And that's the important point. It's not a competition where the seller has to sell it to the person who dibs' first, it's a free market, the seller can sell to whoever he wants to, in this case the first serious offer.

It's quite possible if phest had offered £20 more the seller would have sold it to him instead.
