Is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?

Technically, you can be arrested for riding on the footway, but only if the plod are not satisfied that you have given them your true name and address when they stop you. You haven't hurt anybody yet, but you will look a twat when you do, so why take the risk? You think you cause no problems, but cycling on the footway causes vulnerable pedestrians to be fearful of going about their lawful business - it's the kind of thing which makes old people stay in their houses and parents drive their children to school instead of letting them walk. It doesn't make things more fun; doing the right thing well is fun. Is that enough "bad part" for you?

If you're riding on the footway because you're scared of the carriageway, you need training, and you're being incredibly selfish by privileging your own needs over the lawful needs of others. By allowing motor vehicles to bully you off the carriageway, you're also contributing to their unjustified sense of entitlement. You're a young adult, apparently without any physical handicaps (mental, on the other hand...), so you should be in the vanguard of cyclists claiming their rightful place on the carriageway. Go out there and be a man.

your making me out to be something i realy am not, i dont ride on the path more than 50 metres, i only ride when thers no one walking or atleest very few so thers plenty of room for both of us, i dont ride faster than jogging speed, im kind and thankfull to the people walking, i let them go first, i dont cut them up, i ring my bell, i pass slowly, i say thank you, also if the path is clear and i need to ring some one or text you want me on the road instead? dont think so.

actualy making me sound like some wimpy violant chav that scares old people and dosnt care about any one, im a nice person, i respect old people, i try help them out actualy

i am NOT one of them idiots who ride through the middle of town on the path, if i need to be on the path then irl just walk my bike, where i live its more of a big town, ther realy isnt as many people on the paths as the city or town center, i actualy could ride on the path everywhere in my town and not bother any one, actualy alot of people do it, all of my freinds mostely use the path actualy, im one of the few who mostely use the road, and i do know its alot safer than the road for them
