Surely it's a minor step forward for Australia by having a "indigenous" MP, but he's not though, he's got India, English and indigenous ancestry.
Personally I think that Penny Wong's appointment was more ground breaking.
NZ is perhaps not the best of all examples on how to treat your indigenous people but they surely did a hell of job at integrating them in their political system.
