  • So I ended up doing a 1 day trip mostly due to travel and accommodation costs.
I caught the train to Taunton Sat night, cycled to Exeter on the Sunday and straight home after.

H your directions were fantastic, spot on. Didn't even need a map. There was one junction which wasn't really sign posted well and not on your notes however (for anyone doing this trip), it's at the end of Culmstock and you need to turn left toward uffculme.
Another word of warning, the Hemyock turning is tiny!

A really great ride and some cracking big hills.
Sadly I was on a tourer with full panniers and the wind was a pain all the way. I didn't make Blagdon hill but the other half did. It's big. And then there's another one.

The road in to Exeter (B31818 I think) runs right next to the motorway which is a shame, and the surface is horrendous. If there's a more scenic route I'd definitely recommend it.

But, all in all, a great ride, I really enjoyed it, and it's inspired me to do some hill training.

    Thanks again H.
