Thanks... think I will try a wine box idea, at least to begin with anyway. Its going on a Kona Smoke which I managed to get for sub-£200 so don't want to overboard on amount spent on accessories.
Will probably stain the box to protect against rain and maybe strengthen with some screws.
Might post some photos when I'm done if it looks alright.
