I kinda see the reason why they have a luddite approach to technology though, like for the Hour record, I mean for example, would Eddy Merckx save a lots off in his Hour record had he use Gaerme's Old Faithful?

You could argue the same with Moser's comedy massive rear wheel v.s Merckx's record though? Surely the most important thing is that the record was broken on a level playing field that reflects the technological advances of the time? I wouldn't compare Obree's record to Merckx's to Moser's-different bikes, different era's-important thing is that they all kicked ass when it came to it. If you took that view they'd all be competing for the record on the same stock bike that wouldn't change from one decade to the next.
