I kinda see the reason why they have a luddite approach to technology though, like for the Hour record, I mean for example, would Eddy Merckx save a lots off in his Hour record had he use Gaerme's Old Faithful?

Should Merckx have ridden a bike similar in design to that Henri Desgrange rode in the 1890s when he set the first hour record? Cycle technology improves over time, you can't come over all Canute-like and try and halt it.
