mdcc tester makes a good point. Plenty of people build 29er wheels with lightweight narrow road/CX rims and then run the fattest tyre they can find. This is silly as they could have a lighter + safer set-up with a wider rim and a smaller tyre (running at lower PSI as well most likely).
the opposite mistake is building touring wheels using 29er rims. On the face of it off-road rims are nice and tough. But they are not designed for high pressures and load carrying, and can split internally.
Speaking of which I'm looking at getting some Mavic A719's for a sturdy 36 spoke load carrying/commuting/wnter riding/cycloX wheelset. They look great on paper, but has anyone used these?
