I like the idea of putting it in a bike box along with your clothes as the only checked in luggage and keeping shum that it's a bike.
You can maybe say it's "Art materials" too, that works usually
Having said that when back from US they wanted to charge us for oversized box of "art materials" 150 $, but it was 100$ when it was revealed it's actually sporting equipment.
So check the airline rules. And go with a bike box really unless you want to ride from the airport.
