Bloody hell--is that where it happened? I remember that clearly. The carriageway surface was in an absolutely appalling condition--and remember that we were riding in the darkness. It has to be said that the financing burden imposed on local authorities by excessive motor traffic is simply impossible, but even so action should have been taken on that stretch of road a very long time ago. I can't begin to imagine what it must have been like after this winter.
It's the most appalling tragedy, but I'd bet you that this isn't the first death in which a pothole will have played a part, just (perhaps) the first one that has got reported. So sad and infuriating.
