2000 series alloys have been in use particularly for handlebars for many years, they used to be called Dural before labelling things with alloy numbers became fashionable. It doesn't do to get too hung up about particular alloys, as design dominates material in determining the quality of a finished product, and not all alloys lend themselves to every manufacturing process; it can be better, for example, to forge a weaker alloy rather than to machine a stronger one from billet.
