My cat does this everynight. It seems to happen at sunrise, which is fine in the winter, butnow its starting to get light earlier. Its not so good. he attaches himself onto my feet with his claws and teeth.
He knows the score though, because when I get up. He knows what he's in for as he hides under the bed. I trick him into thinking I am going to feed him so he follows me downstairs after a few minutes. Then, when he is off guard, I pick him up, throw him out the back door and go back to bed. Needless to say George hates me. But it doesn't seem like he is capable of learning.
I wouldn't know what to do though, if I didn't have a garden!
