Because it was a full blowout (sidewall failure from manufacturing fault) rather than a puncture/slow loss of air, I was going from 140psi to riding on the rim in about 1 second, as soon as rim was in contact with wood the rear came round and underneath me, and any control I did have went completely, luckily I'd already began diving for the safety zone and didn't hit deck until I was nearly off the track.
Sometimes you can ride safely off if it's a less sudden loss of air and the tub remains in one piece, I've seen people do whole laps on a flat before.
I still say I would rather come off on wood than at HH.
