You're wrong.
techcrunch has been hacked twice in the last 24 hours. The problem is on all versions including the latest.
ONLY if you are running Wordpress from the SVN dev branch and you updated in the last 24 hours are you safe from this SPECIFIC hack, but even then this still leaves you exposed to hacks that aren't as widely known. Still best to protect your xmlrpc.php regardless of whether you are on the SVN dev branch.
