  • no pref, i have a old disk wheel " tub" i want to ride it about, without the thought of spending 50 quid a week replacing tyre

You think people who use clincher tyres replace them each time they get a puncture?

The cost would be for patches and tubes, not for whole tyres. Maybe you hadn't meant it that way though?

I'm guessing that the tubs you use may be around 700x22/23? If so, there are clincher tyres that offer FAR greater puncture protection, and with good ride characteristics. The Schwalbe Durano Plus 700x23 would be my recommendation, for very fast riding, but it is not a light tyre. The new Halo Berlin Courier tyre 700x24 offers even greater puncture protection, and more grip in slush or mud, but the Durano Plus beats it in the dry, or wet (non-oily) surfaces.

There's also the Tufo tubular clincher tyres, which ride as tubs, but fit onto clicher rims. Very high pressures can be achieved on these tyres, over 200psi in some cases. Tufo supply their own tyre sealant, which works in the same way as the one that you high-lighted above.

Have you had a look at the Anti-Puncture Tyres list?

    EDIT:
I'd go with Sainsburys_Ed's recommendation if I were to use tubs.
