Three years ago I started training for such a ride. Before then, I had hobbled down to Brighton on a hybrid a couple of times for the BHF ride. I trained, I lost a couple of stone, I had a Cyclefit, I bought a new bike, I raised £8,000 for charity, I got into cycling. I promised, at the time, that that was the last sponsored event I would do for a decade. It was, at that time, an achievement. Since then I have done far more challenging events for myself and not for charity.
If charity rides get people into cycling and raise money for good causes, I am all in favour of them.
