Road rims are fine. You see people using wheels ranging from bog standard box profile rims to carbon rims.

Tyres are dependant on conditions but for current ones then you want a mud specific tyre, i.e. large knobs for grip but with plenty of clearance between them to aid mud shedding.

Do you use tubs? What gruppo do you have on your CX bike and how does the size compare with your other bikes?
