By original, I was referring to the powergrip, where the evolution of the design start off.
Because this is a very basic idea, I'm not surprise that more and more company making their 'own' strap, the fact that JOL and Hold Fast developed them at the same time show that.
Once again Ed you are trying to back track after spouting a load of crap.
The only thing that Power grips and JOL straps share in common are that they are both a form of foot retention, other than that they are completely different.
JOL straps require absolutely no mounting hardware to attach to the pedal Powergrips DO.
Powergrips are not easily adjustable once mounted to the pedal as they require you to adjust the metal hardware which is also attached to the pedal, JOL straps DON'T.
JOL straps mount horizontally, power grips DON'T
JOL straps offer the same amount of adjustability tension wise on the front and back sections of the pedal, just as double straps do, power grips DON'T
The lightbulb is a very basic idea, but someone still had to concieve, manufacture and test it, and it was still revolutionary at the time, just as the use of horizontal durable straps for tricks/fixed street have now become common place for tricks riders etc, people needed something better, so some clever people came up with a good idea, tested it...manufactured it... et voila.
Actually no you're right Ed, they share a lot of similarities.....jeez.
