  • As everyones said it is doable, I'd say for the budget you are proposing, very much so.

    I'm another person who now rides their polo bike pretty much all the time, I've got a 32 tooth chainring and flip between 14 and 19 on the back, I don't think eith of these is perfect for thier purposes, 32x14 is still too spinny for the road (but not too bad) and 32x19 isn't spinny enough. I'd like a chain ring just above the mid twenties so I could squeeze in a bit more difference.

    It's enough though (I happily do my 15 mile commute racing the geared... Sometimes even overtaking!) and I think a better idea than carryingtwo chains (messy) or a double chainring (dangerousin polo... Something I used to do till I cut dt's leg with the bigger chainring... Maybe it's possible if you use a bash gaurd though, although that's just another thing to break... Or cover the larger ring when playing somehow?!)
