• As previously said, forcing someone is a bad idea.

That said, why would anyone need forcing to get into cycling?

It's easily one of the top five things anyone can do in life.

The fear and thinking it's somehow not normal are based on simple misinformation.

All the things that have been said about cycle training are very good and correct, but the most experienced trainers wouldn't want to train someone who didn't want to cycle.

Why? Because it would simply set up the trainee to fail.

The whole approach to cycle training is to increase people's enjoyment of cycling, but in order for this to work, it is vital that the trainee already wants to cycle. If they don't, they won't be won round by training. They will only fail to gain enjoyment, as forced activities are rarely enjoyable. (Will the S&M sub-forum kindly pipe down, please. No, I'm not calling you the S&M sub-forum, Will.)

last_caress, if you want her to share that part of your life, just get her to meet more of your cycling friendsforum mates--provided she doesn't object, of course. This will introduce her to a supportive community in which cycling is normal (even if the people who do it, aren't ... quite). She can then make her own informed judgement as to whether she wants to cycle. If she does, she can later still do training and increase her enjoyment.
