Is this a joke that I'm not getting?
If not then i dont know for sure but i always assumed it was kinda like a stretchy bit incase they got an ear caught so it wouldn't rip. I like to test my cats' ears periodically by tugging on them. They have thus far not ripped.

is it not for acoustics (acoastics)? the same way we have bits.. i have just realised at this point i am staring at the ears of other people in the office and it's getting akward
