I'ver rebuilt a set of loose bearing Deore hubs, and am in the process of building some wheels based on Hope ProII hubs.
From inspection alone I'd say that the Hope hubs are a far superior design. I was under the impression that the cartridge bearing design, means that bearing wear is less likely to transmitt to the rest of the hub so quickly, and that they coped better in wet conditions.
