  • Scaring other riders on the track by means of waving your bike at them (lifting the back wheel when hanging off the front of the bike is particularly effective), mini wheelies/ putting the front wheel down skew etc has always been part of my standard stock in trade....... :-)))))

    But seriously....

    Not being weirdly macho here at all, I've just found that "finding 100%" or "getting it all out" doesnt go with 100% control usually... in the same way I rarely do a brilliant (erm acceptably fast for an old fat fart like me....) standing start without grunting and shouting so much that the paramedics rush over....

    It's always a bit of a compromise between 100% effort (NB sprints/starts only here) and perfect control - and sometime one "settles" for a performance which is not particularly pretty, but is effective.

    That just me, YMMV!
