I still remember vividly when 'Canceller' Kohl in Germany killed a very promising bill that, had it become law, would have required supermarkets to take back packaging to REDUCE it. Instead, Germany got the 'Yellow Sack'--to RECYCLE packaging, right from the top of the hierarchy to the bottom. And stuff like this happens all the time.
Corporations run countries, not governments, stupid. (:P)
Supermarkets - fridges - no doors - the insanity of consumer pandering deigns they (the customers) should not be put through the ordeal of opening a fridge door - it is one of the biggest (careful now - technical term approaching) pissing away of energy you will find on the high street.
Even in the 1990s we had those plastic strips over fridges - but even asking the consumer to put their hand through a plastic stip has been seen as a competitive disadvantage in the market place.
The thing is I cannot (don't) get too exercised by all this as I am a Wiganwilliam on this front, it's all about getting in your last orders before chucking out time.
