Okay, so I must just be having bad luck with cogs and hubs then. My current cog was screwed on as tight as possible with a chainwhip. I then screwed on the lockring as tight as possible with a lockring tool. When skid stopping the cog span back about 1/4 turn and then forward again when pedalling off. And when I say tight, I mean tight to the point where I stripped the thread of the lockring thread on the cog!
As both cog and lockring were very tight I have to assume it was a case of hub thread being too wide and not letting the lockring tighten up against the cog properly as the cog was wide enough on the threads.
Anyway, try again with new hub coming today as looks like I have wrongly assumed that it was to do with lack of tightness causing my problem.
