I have managed to break freewheels, axles, and crankarms but never a chain. I currently use KMC 8 speed half silver on all my bikes (fixed, SS, MTB< and I'm ashamed to admit> geared) with no problem at all. I use these with using the supplied quick link. (Chain £5 from Parker international)
A decent chin correctly aligned and not totally shagged should be beyond human breakage.
But there will always be the odd exception of course.
